 About SCBfS

Our Story

In the UK, around 8 out of 10 women stop breastfeeding before they want to. As breastfeeding rates continue to drop, many families find themselves without the support they need to meet their own feeding goals.

Sunshine Coast Breastfeeding Support began with just a few volunteers meeting up weekly. A small circle of mums who not only became close friends but also passionate breastfeeding supporters. Over the months, our group in Eastbourne blossomed into a warm, welcoming space where people could share, learn, and support one another.

We soon realised that everyone deserves access to the right support and the right to make informed decisions about feeding their baby. We believe that each family should be able to have the breastfeeding journey that works for them, whatever that looks like.

What started as one weekly group turned into something bigger. We began to plan how we could offer more free support, accessible to more families, more often. That’s how the idea of the charity was born.

As each of us had very different breastfeeding journeys, we understood that one size doesn't fit all. We agreed that tailored support is key, so the idea of a walk-in service began to take shape. Today, we are proud to offer families in our community a range of support options in a kind, pressure-free environment.
